Malawi Muslims Hail Court For Jailing Musician Mesho…”We Are Satisfied With The Ruling”

Blantyre First Grade magistrate court has sentenced a musician Anderson Chipwaila and a producer Stephano Emmanuel to two years imprisonment and one year imprisonment respectively after being found guilty of two counts of intimidation and writing or uttering words with intent to wound religious feelings.

Presenting her sentence First Grade Magistrate Asunta Muwalo said mocking a religion is the worst kind of assault that can bring confusion among the believers.

Muwalo said the song brought discomfort among the believers especially the Muslim community. Magistrate Muwalo has also banned the song to airwaves warning that anyone found playing the song will be brought to book. She said the sentence will deter other would be offenders.

Reacting to the development, Secretary General of Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) Alhaji Twaibu Lawe said they are satisfied with the ruling. Alhaji Lawe commended Muslims for holding their patience and making sure that justice should take its course.

Chipwaila popularly known as Mesho released a song which called for the demolition of masjids so that people should be able to consume pork which is prohibited in Islam. Chipwaila 29 hails from Binali Village Traditional Authority Mkanda in Mulanje district while Stephano Emmanuel 25 hails from Samson village Traditional Authority M’biza in Zomba district.”

    You have to understand that he was creating war among religions people which is very dangerous war than other wars .he have to be punished to others learn a lesson
