The construction works at Ngabu Community Technical College in Chikwawa will be complete in two months time, the contractors have confirmed.
“We are in the finishing phase in which we are making sure that everything is in line with the plan and very soon we will finish” said the contractor.
The college will have state of the art equipment from China where in addition to the other technical courses, youths in the district will have an opportunity to study mechanical engineering.
“I am failing to believe what my eyes have seen. What sounded like a mere promise has now come into a reality. We are happy with President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for honouring the pledge he made to us young people in Shire Valley. We promise our support too.” Gift Makwinja, one of the youths at Nchalo Trading Centre was quoted as saying.
President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika came up with the community technical colleges concept as one of the ways through which government can equip young people with technical skills. The initiative will make the youth become self-reliant and also alleviate poverty in young people which are a majority group in the country.
The initiative will be implemented in all the 28 districts in the country. So far, Chitipa, Likoma, Phalombe, Thyolo just to mention but a few districts, the colleges have already started bearing fruits while construction works in districts like Chikwawa are about to be completed.
