According to the Blantyre Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Lameck Yona Thembachako, the mother, Erico Mabuka Mtambo, 57, died in the wee hours of March 1 at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital whilst receiving medical treatment.
Narrating the ordeals to Ndirande Sub-Station Police in a recorded statement an eye witness, Awali Mkwera who hails from the same area said it all started on February 22, around 17:30hours when the two disagreed on something that saw the mother being assaulted severely.
“She then fainted on the same spot. This happened in Ndirande Township. The son (suspect) escaped the same day just after he committed the offence and his whereabouts are not yet known. She was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital after being given medical referral letter from police. She was admitted at the hospital until she last breathed on March 01,” he said.
The body of Mtambo was taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for postmortem and examination. The results show that the deceased died due to severe head and spinal injuries.
“It is against this background that we are asking the general public to bring forward the whereabouts of the suspect, Maganizo Mtambo, to any nearest police station or call the toll free line: 0888 990 997,” said Thembachako.
