Prison Authorities Still Mum on Macholowe’s Whereabouts Following JB Pardon, Cover Up Murder of Some Prisoners During Fracas

Zomba Maximum Security Prison officials are still mum on speculations spreading like bush fire that notorious criminal and murderer Clive Macholowe was part of the list of 377 prisoners pardoned by Joyce Banda.

According to our investigator who visited the Prison, authorities are tight lipped on the issue.

The prison authorities have also refused to grant tens of curious journalists, and lawyers an audience with Macholowe at the prison.

“If Macholowe is still in the prison, why are they not allowing us to see him,” wondered our investigator.

Prisoners even in solitary confinement are still allowed access to a doctor, pastor, journalist and lawyer.

The Joyce Banda regime has received heavy criticism when it was exposed that it had released two dangerous murderers as part of Malawi’s independent celebrations.

A fracas ensured at the prison in which 20 prisoners were injured, three killed and 7 escaped.

The prison authorities have refused to show Macholowe to the public as proof he is still locked up and that Joyce Banda did not pardon him.

Macholowe is said to be a dangerous criminal who presided over a string of bank robberies and murdered a police officer at one time.

In a related development, Zomba maximum Prison authorities are reported to have covered up the murders of some prisoners during the fracas that started when Joyce Banda pardoned two dangerous criminals and murderers.

According to investigations by ZBS, some people have reported that they are missing their relatives who were locked up.

People are being turned back when they go to see their relatives. What is that? Where are their relatives? Something is being covered up” said our source from ZBS.

Speculation has grown that over 10 prisoners were killed by warders on instruction from he Joyce Banda government when the fracas began.

They are alleged to have been buried in a mass grave somewhere in Zomba.

Malawi Voice is still digging in the story and will keep readers posted.

Why are we dragging JB into it. The duty of president is to announce a pardon. He or She doesnot line them and search what they are. This is the duty of prison authorities. In fact prison authorities list and choose which ones should be pardoned or not! Here the president is blamed on mistakes made by prison officers. i suggest following this realisation JB must commission a quick enquiry if found wrong there must be shake up in the prison system some people must be demoted! They are tired. JB must try to assemble a system that can help her and not the one that can be paid to sabotage her!

me help you mangulenje. the pardon committee has the artoney general, prison chief and cso people but a few. so they make the list and corraborate with the president who signs and pardons the prisoners. there is no way the president can sign without knowing what he/she is signing for, asamakunamizeni. Can a president sign parliament bills without understanding them? No! So the president knows and thats why people are pointing fingers at jezebel for releasing notorious thugs. Remember macholowe was pardoned by muluzi just days before he stepped out of power? Why? Because there is a connection of allegiance between atcheya and macholowe. Macholowe is an assassin and thug, he is hired by these politicians to do the dirty works and promises him security and monies. Thats why he cant be in the walls of prison when this woman cum muluzi govt took over. The spate of bank robberie will start. Sudden deaths of prominent people in opposition will take place. Car theft are on the way and many more bad crimes just wait and see. So to pave way, they instructd police not to shoot criminals and they have actually taken all guns from policemen. Police are now walking with button sticks like in the kamuzu era. So do you think people should not connect this to joyce or not? Be reasonable man.

Then you dont know anything about presidential pardons.do your research before you comment anything.THE PRESIDENT KNEW WHO SHE WAS PARDONING AND WHY THEY WERE BEING PARDONED.Nachipanti mwina has been pardoned coz miphika ya magazi yachita run dry so they nd refilling and who better than him to do such a noble task.akaidi oti anaba nkhuku kwawo nkumangidwa sanatulutsidwe koma OKUPHA ANTHU NDIYE KUTULUKA?YOU NEVER SEE SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE AND ICAN SEE SMOKE FROM MILES AWAY.CANT YOU?ARE YOUR EYES OPEN OR SHUT?GO LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

A prisoner is a human being whom we want to reform not to die in the hands of warders. What a shame! May we have the names of the dead prisoners coz we need to bury them as there are our relatives. Shame to whoever said they should be killed. Why killing in the first place? You will face what you have done not so long.

If it is true that we have mass graves for the murdered prisoners, then JB should be brought to ICC.

Sleeping CSOs, where are you on this? Undule Mwakasungula and your friends?

We need a statement on this mass grave issue. It is unacceptable!

terrible and horrible. terrifying and horrifying. murders become free and innocents rot. Mai JB our president. ganizanipo bwino. if you claim to uphold justice, let me show you how justice is prevailing itself in the following story. one woman stole at the time of Prophet Muhammad. she came from a respectable family and hence people wanted her being exempted from the punishment which is according to God’s laws (Sharia); amputation of a hand. so they (people) sent an intercessor to Prophet on her behalf. upon this, Prophet Muhammad came out and gathered people and said; “oh people! what has come of some of you that you want the laws changed (because of her status)! indeed, if Fatuma, the daughter of Muhammad (refering to his daughter) stole, Muhammad would have amputated her hand”)
this is genuine justice we all ought to follow. think of the many people who suffered because of these notorious criminals who have been released. becareful! when justice is not given justice, people go mob justice!

VERY SAD. BUT LEARN TO WRITE YOUR STORIES WITHOUT JUICING UP. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MULUZI.

But the same Malawi voice, was siding with shoot to kill policy. If you are worried with the death of some prisoners (like all of us) what about if they were shot by these blood thirst policemen?

Do we really know what we write in Malawi?

This reminds me of how I lost my father. It was during Kamuzu’s era. I was 14 years old. I remember visiting my dad alone at Zomba Maximum prison. After talking to him for some minutes prision warders pushed him away.

A few days later a policeman came cycling to our village asking for my father’s uncle, and broke the news to us that my father had died and was buried.

The story was that after assesing him, they transfered him from Zomba Miximum Prision where I had visited him, to Zomba Mental Hospital as a patient. While there a fellow patient struck him in the head with a metal bar and my father bled to death. He was buried by prisoners.

My relatives and I travelled to Zomba where we were shown a fresh grave where my father was buried. What bothers me today is why his body was not given to us to bury him? Why was he buried by prisioners like he had no family and children?

In 2004 I travelled to Malawi from diaspora with the intention of making a fitting tombstone to my father so that his grandchildren should know where he is resting. The Zomba Mental Hospital staff gave me someone, old serving member who knew of some graves. When we went there I could not identify my father’s grave as there were many unmarked graves. Sadly I left.

So I know there are two sites where people are buried including those who died by hanging. Mass graves exist somewhere nearZomba Mental Hospital.
