People Queue Up For Sugar At Zomba Shoprite To Save MK236
Business in the city of Zomba was interrupted on Tuesday, the 27th of March 2012 at around 4:00pm, when information reached out that sugar had just arrived at Shoprite.
People sneaked from their offices before knocking time, in order to have a chance of buying sugar which was is being sold at K214.00 at shoprite,hoping that they would return within a short time only to find long queues.
Buying sugar at shoprite will save some money since vendors are selling the same product, at the range of K450 t0 K500 a packet due to the scarcity of the product in the country.
However queues reached as far as the offices of DAPP 300 yards north of Shoprite, disturbing business in other shops such as Arkay Plastics and Quick save.
This also caused traffic congestion since the Shoprite is along the road and just opposite to the exit gate of the bus depot. At first people were allowed to buy up to five packets but seeing how the people flocked to the shop, only two packets were allowed and the commotion of people was orderly due to the Police who quickly came to organize them and rescue the situation.
